Actor Akah Nnani Slams CAN Over N100m Ransom For Prelate

Nollywood actor, Akah Nnani, on Wednesday slammed the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN over the disclosure that N100 million was paid as ransom to kidnappers to free the Methodist Church prelate, Samuel Kanu-Uche. 

The actor opined that the Lagos State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria, should have kept the payment of the ransom a secret to avoid such incidents from repeating itself.

Recall that the Lagos CAN Chairman, Bishop Stephen Adegbite, at a press conference in Yaba, Lagos on Tuesday disclosed to the public that N100m was paid as ransom to free the prelate.

Reacting to the video shared by PUNCH on Instagram, the actor said: “Good. So you have just told kidnappers that this is good business. Well done.”

Clarifying, Akah Nnani said, “I’m talking about CAN being comfortable sharing this news. Not everything should be public consumption.

I don’t think it’s a good thing to negotiate with kidnappers. Our state of security is so horrible.

“So if it comes to that, keep quiet so as not to encourage more incidences. They shouldn’t have shared. Plus this is CAN. But if it were a poor Christian they will say pray. Prelate now, they paid 100m,” Akah Nnani said in response to CAN.

The Prelate was abducted on Sunday evening alongside the Methodist Bishop of Owerri, Rt. Rev. Dennis Mark, and his (the Prelate’s) chaplain.
