Dumebi Beats Monye, Moghalu To Win ADC Presidential Ticket

Kingsley Moghalu, a former Central Bank of Nigeria’s Deputy Governor, has lost the 2023 presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress ADC.

Moghalu, who joined the ADC in October 2021, was Young Progressives Party (YPP) presidential candidate in 2019.

This is as the founder of Roots Television, Dumebi Kachikwu, emerged as the 2023 presidential candidate of the ADC in the party’s presidential primary held in Abeokuta.

Dumebi Kachikwu emerged the winner after defeating the likes of Moghalu, Chukwuka Monye, and eight other aspirants.

Dumebi Kachikwu, who is also the younger brother of Nigeria’s former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Ibe Kachikwu, polled 977 votes.

Moghalu emerged second with 589 votes while Monye came third with 339 votes.

Eight other aspirants participated in the presidential primary in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

In his reaction, the former ADC presidential aspirant Monye tweeted: “ADC primaries is done. I appreciate Prof. Moghalu and other credible aspirants for a spirited fight even though we didn’t make it.

“The fight to rescue this country from the brink of disaster is still on. Monye is committed to this. Will communicate who we will support.”
