Close associates of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar were on Tuesday night set to deliberate on a report of the party which overwhelmingly voted for Governor Nyesom Wike as the running mate.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG authoritatively gathered that the party committee had recommended Governor Nyesom Wike ahead of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa by a vote of 13 to 3 votes. Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State who was also considered did not poll a vote from the 16 member committee.

The recommendation was despite the massive support given by Okowa and the mobilisation by Delta delegates for Atiku ahead of the presidential primary. All but one of the delegates from the state were reported to have voted for Atiku reportedly on the prompting of Governor Okowa despite the presence of fellow South-South governor, Wike in the ballot.

The choice of the running mate from the committee is, however, not believed to be binding on Atiku.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that Atiku had, however, told the committee that he would allow himself to be guided by the committee’s report. The committee is believed to be peopled with top party members including some governors many of whom are known to be close associates of Wike.

The committee chaired by the deputy national chairman Umaru Damagun is made up of several leading PDP members including former Senate President, David Mark, House Minority Leader, Ndudi Elumelu, Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed and Philip Aduda.

Other members of the committee include former governor of Niger State, Babagida Aliyu, former governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, former Cross Rivers State Governor, liyel Imoke and former governor of Ondo State, Olusegun Mimiko, PDP National Secretary, Sam Nwayanu, National Organising Secretary, Umar Bature.

It was gathered that the Atiku inner circle would commence a meeting from 10.00 p.m. where it would either reject or accept the choice of Wike as the running mate.
