PDP Set To Win First 2023 Senate Seat As INEC Bars APC In Yobe North
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP could be set to win its first Senate seat in the All Progressives Congress, APC dominated Yobe State following reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC may have barred the APC from participating in the election in Yobe North Senatorial District.
GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that some news reports including The Nation have reported that Senate President Ahmed Lawan and Hon Bashir Machina lost out in their bid for the seat claim that sources in the INEC office in Damaturu said the commission did not publish any candidate for APC.
“What we have is Mohammed Bomoi for Yobe South and Ibrahim Geidam for Yobe East. There is no name for the Yobe North for the APC,” the source told The Nation.
The Head of Voter Education and Publicity at the Damaturu office of INEC, Mrs Rifkatu Duku, confirmed the ruling party has no candidate for the seat.
” No credentials of APC candidates for Zone C have been submitted to the office from the headquarters. We have received credentials of candidates for the National Assembly and presidential election.
“But we did not get that of Zone C, ie Yobe north for APC. We got that of Yobe south and Yobe eat which is the Ibrahim Bomoi and former Governor Gaidam,” Mrs Duku said.
The APC has submitted Lawan’s name as candidate for the party.
But Machina, who won the primary supervised by INEC, has insisted he is the authentic candidate for the election, vowing to stop at nothing to get his mandate.
GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that the PDP is the second ranking party in Yobe and the only way the party can lose out in Yobe North is for the APC to marshal resources to back a third party candidate and frustrate the PDP.
