Running Mate: Northwest Complicates Matters For Tinubu

The perceived search for a running mate by All Progressives Congress, APC presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu was on Thursday being complicated after party stakeholders from the Northwest asked him to focus his search on the region.

Throwing their electoral strength into the bargain, the zonal leaders said the region with 39% of the total votes in 2015 and 2019 that no zone was more qualified than the Northwest to produce the running mate.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that Tinubu is still searching for a running mate having submitted Alhaji Ibrahim Masari from Katsina State as a placeholder.

APC governors, governorship candidates and ministers from the states in the zone attended the zonal stakeholders meeting that took place in Abuja according to the communique of the meeting issued by the APC zonal vice chairman (North-West), Salihu Mohammed Lukman.

Part of the communique reads, “The meeting welcomed the initiative to commence this consultative meeting as vital for strengthening the APC in the North-West and improve leadership engagements and cohesion within the zone.

“The zonal meeting welcomed the successful conclusion of primaries at the state and national levels. Participants acknowledged the challenges facing some state chapters of the party and resolved to promote efforts at reconciliation as an urgent priority.

“The meeting noted the contribution of the North-West to the emergence and growth of the APC and its electoral viability, with the North-West providing about 39% of the votes the APC recorded in the 2019 and 2015 presidential elections.

“Therefore, the zone resolved to aggregate its interests and vital concerns and engage accordingly with the presidential candidate of the party.”

GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that before the demand of the Northwest leaders, that the choice of a running mate by Tinubu had largely been reported to be mostly focused on the Northeast.
