As Wike Returns, Atiku Reiterates Okowa As Running Mate, Calls For Unity

Peoples Democratic Party, PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar has pushed aside pressure from some party stakeholders to reverse himself on his choice of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as his running mate asking all stakeholders to forge unity in the task of enthroning a new government formed by the party.

He spoke as his main rival in the recent PDP presidential primaries, Governor Nyesom Wike returned to the country after a six-day holiday in Turkey.

While in Turkey, supporters of the Rivers State governor threw shades over the choice of Okowa as the vice-presidential candidate.

While Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State alleged injustice in the choice of Okowa as running mate, former Governor Ayodele Fayose pledged to support a Southerner in the main election on the fact that the PDP ought to have zoned the ticket to the South.

Atiku had in the midst of the mutterings affirmed that he was reaching out to address the issues raised by aggrieved stakeholders.

However, as Wike returned to the country on Saturday after his six-day holiday, the PDP candidate moved further to affirm his choice of Okowa as running mate while at the same time calling for unity in the task of enthroning a new PDP government.

Atiku who expressed himself on twitter said:

Attached to the tweet was a video of Governor Okowa where he pledged that with Atiku leading from the front that no one would be left behind in the quest to restore Nigeria while calling for unity at the same time.

The Delta State governor in a word of assurance to supporters of Wike also pledged to make himself accessible as a possible vice-president vowing that the task of is one that required the collaboration of all.

He said: “For me, being on the ticket with Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, is an opportunity to play a role in resetting the trajectory of Nigeria back to the path of growth, peace and prosperity.”
