The All Progressives Congress, APC is to fly a Muslim-Muslim ticket in Kaduna State, the Governorship candidate, Senator Uba Sani disclosed on Monday as he unveiled the outgoing deputy governor of the state, Dr Hadiza Balarabe, as his running mate for the 2023 gubernatorial elections.

Sani made this known on Monday in Kaduna after consultations with critical stakeholders from across the state.

The decision to fly a Muslim-Muslim ticket would be the second time in the history of the state that a major political party in the state would be doing so following the successful attempt by the outgoing governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai in 2019.

The balance of the two main religions in the state had in the past been reported to be near equal but authorities in the state have recently been claiming to project the Muslim population as significantly more.

The state has also since the advent of the Muhammadu Buhari government APC federal government also nominated only Muslims as ministers unlike in the past when there was a mix of Christian-Muslim nominees from the Olusegun Obasanjo through the Umar Yar`Adua to the Goodluck Jonathan presidencies.

Kaduna State is dominated by Muslim Hausa-Fulani in the North and Christian minority tribal groups in the South with people of both faiths occupying the centre.

In a statement made available to newsmen, on his choice of Dr Balarabe who is from the South, Senator Sani said that she had contributed immensely to the giant strides recorded by the El-Rufai administration in infrastructure and human capital development.

“Dr Balarabe has demonstrated hard work, punctuality, dedication and team spirit in the discharge of her responsibility as deputy governor which has endeared her to the critical stakeholders in the state.

“I wish to therefore call on the good people of Kaduna State to support the choice of Dr Hadiza Balarabe as my running mate.

“I also enjoin them coming out en-masse to vote for our ticket during the forthcoming 2023 general elections.

“Your mandate in 2023 will enable us to build a peaceful, prosperous and greater Kaduna State.

“Together, we are determined to make the state a reference point for good and responsive governance,” Sani declared.

The revelation that the APC is flying a Muslim-Muslim ticket has yet to receive a response from stakeholders in Kaduna State.
