Festus Keyamo backs Tinubu, says no place for religion in development

The Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Olorogun Festus Keyamo (SAN), has dismissed criticisms against the Muslim-Muslim nomination of Senator Kashim Shettima as the running mate to All Progressives Congress, APC presidential candidate, Alhaji Bola Tinubu.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that Keyamo had following the nomination immediately come out to back him describing Shettima as a “Quintessential banker & economist, suave gentleman & politician, intellectually fertile, economically sound, intergenerationally mobile (he’s young, yet experienced), fiercely loyal, phenomenally complimentary to @officialABAT; HE Sen. Kashim Shettima is the perfect choice as VP.”

However, the nomination of has been strongly criticized for failing to adhere to the religious character of the country as it projects a Muslim-Muslim ticket in a country equally split between Christians and Muslims.

Responding to the criticisms against the decision of Tinubu to pick Shettima, Keyamo in two tweets on Monday morning said:

“Govt. doesn’t exist to assuage the egos of religious leaders, but to bring about development for everyone. Today, most religious leaders in Nigeria go to Dubai and the USA for shopping & holidays when the UAE is being governed by Muslims & the USA is being governed by Christians.

“There’s no country in the world where history tells us that its development was as a result of ‘balanced’ presidential tickets (in terms of religion) over the years; countries developed as a result of visionary leadership and not because they pandered to some religious sentiments.”
