Plateau Initiative for Development and Advancement of the Natives, PIDAN, has rebuffed Governor Simon Lalong for allegedly misconstruing the outcome of the stakeholders meeting with Christian and Islamic leaders on the Memorandum of Understanding, MoU with Jaiz Bank on the reconstruction of the Jos Central Market.

Disputing the claims of a press statement by the governor’s media aide that the religious and other stakeholders gave their approval, PIDAN in a statement made available to GreenWhiteGreen GWG affirmed that on the contrary that the resolution of the meeting was to put the issue on hold pending further consultations.

The statement issued by Comrade Nanle N Gujor Sropecretary General, PIDAN follows disagreements over the proposed MoU between the Plateau State Government and Jaiz Bank that would allow the bank reconstruct and run the Jos Central Bank for 40 years.

Jaiz Bank would control 60% of the market while the government would control 40% of the market under the proposal.

The proposal has, however, been rebuffed in some circles leading to the stakeholders’ meeting the outcome of which is now being disputed.

Affirming the group’s quest for unity in the state in the face of the dispute over the Jos Central Market MoU, PIDAN said:

“PIDAN’s posture has and is always for the propagation of the unity and future of our dear State and to safeguard it from being mortgaged or destroyed by anyone or groups of people, irrespective of the position (s) they occupy. These we do with the view to sustain and maintain the solid foundation our founding fathers structured and bequeathed on us at the cost of their lives.

Govt Statement On Jos Central Market False – PIDAN

“We therefore see the statement credited to the Governor’s Director of Press and Public Affairs captioned, “Stakeholders endorse Rebuilding of Jos Main Market”  as not just surprising, but embarrassing and ridiculing to the integrity of our highly respected eminent elder statesmen and groups who gave their counsels during the  parley, because it did not reflect the position taken at the meeting.

“We believe that government would have put the perspective of meeting in it’s true position of keeping it on hold, and awaits the outcome of the further consultations with the grass roots at the local government level, rather than the conclusive headlines.

“PIDAN hereby reiterates it’s position that the project be kept on hold until all the grey issues raised at the meeting are properly scrutinized and solutions found. We encourage the leadership of the various Development Associations to mobilize their membership to attain and present their sincere positions at the various parleys.”
