Nigerians have taken to their handles to react to the decision by electricity workers under the aegis of the National Union of Electricity Employees, (NUEE) to suspend their nationwide strike which brought darkness across the country.

GWG reports that the union took this decision after an emergency meeting with the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige.

Recall that members of the union had earlier shut down their offices resulting in power outages across the country.

The electricity workers under NUEE and the Senior Staff Association of Electricity and Allied Companies (SSAEC) agreed to suspend the industrial action after the meeting.

The Secretary General of NUEE, Joe Ajaero, while speaking with newsmen after the meeting disclosed that they had been asked to suspend the strike action.

Ajaero expressed hope that the government would act in good faith on the issues in dispute which have lingered for years.

He, however, stated that they would suspend the strike for two weeks hoping the federal government would act on its demands.

Ngige while speaking on the outcome of the meeting said, they agreed to form a committee to look into the grievances of the electricity workers and report back in two weeks.

The development has sparked mixed reactions from social media users.
