Okowa’s Associates Rebuff Mock Support From Edevbie’s Patrons

Political associates of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State have chided as mockery the support being canvassed for the governor’s vice-presidential aspiration by a group of political actors in the state who are supportive of the governorship aspiration of Olorogun David Edevbie.
The group styled as Deltans Life Matters in a statement made available to GWG affirmed that it was contradictory to push forward the Atiku/Okowa ticket and at the same time incline themselves towards Edevbie.
GWG reports that there is a suspense over the governorship ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Delta State. The Court of Appeal has reserved judgment on the dispute that was stirred by the court action filed by Edevbie to disqualify Sheriff Oborevwori who won the primary on the basis of alleged forgery.
Responding to the entreaties of the Edevbie inclined Delta Unity Group, DUG, the Deltan Life Matters in a statement signed by Christian Moses Abeh, Global Coordinator and Bartholomew Utele, Secretary-General said:
“The sudden appearance of a Political pressure group with the name DELTA UNITY GROUP with the mandate of supporting David Edevbie’s Governorship aspiration along side support for the Atiku/Okowa ticket comes to us as a comedy of sorts. The two objectives of the DUG are mutually antagonistic as one cannot support Dr Okowa and his Principal abroad only to come back home to cunningly disparage their governor by supporting a ” governorship candidate” who is not the winner of the Primaries.
“A look at the list of attendees will reveal a former Speaker who was a regular guest of the anti-graft agency because of the fraudulent roles he played in a past administration, a House of Representatives member who could not secure the ticket of his party to return to the Green Chamber for another term, a sacked Commissioner and several others who have long lost relevance in the Delta state political family. Even representing the chip of the old block is a former Governor’s daughter whose father could not help her secure victory in a house of Assembly primary election.
“One common thread that runs among the members of DUG is that they represent a league of aggrieved persons seeking to ventilate their grievances by forming a composite Political group. We cannot find one prominent Aide of the governor or any highly reasonable person there. Our belief therefore is that the DUG comprise members who are seeking relevance in the Political environment through the back door.
“The DUG in their communique even cast aspersion on the state PDP chairman by advising him to “always play the role of an impartial arbiter”. As if that was not enough the DUG’s communique issued a warning to the National Chairman of the PDP to promptly obey the Court order by forwarding the name of David Edevbie to INEC as the Governorship candidate of the party.
“From the tone of the communique the DUG is trying to take over the roles of the state Executive of the Party and even dictate terms to the Governor if Possible.”
“Herein lies the duplicity in the DUG’s false support for the Atiku/Okowa Presidential ticket. One does not see why the DUG is in so much hurry to throw their weight behind their preferred choice for the Delta state PDP Governorship when the matter is still in court,” the group said.
