Anambra lawmaker slumps dies

A senior Nigerian lawmaker, the Majority Leader of Anambra State House of Assembly, Nnamdi Okafor has been pronounced dead after slumping in the course of an ongoing retreat for members of the state’s lawmakers in South Africa.

GWG reports that Okafor who represented Awka South Constituency 1, collapsed early on Tuesday, August 23, 2022, in his hotel in Sandton City, Johannesburg, South Africa. The lawmaker was subsequently confirmed dead a few hours after he collapsed.

A news report disclosed that he was in Johannesburg with fellow members of the Anambra State House of Assembly for what was termed a legislative retreat. However, the cause of the death of the Nigerian lawmaker has not been disclosed.

The body of the dead Anambra lawmaker is still in South Africa and has not been brought back home and the prospect of the retreat continuing remains uncertain following the unexpected death of the senior Nigerian lawmaker.

Meanwhile, GWG has also reported of panic within the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP emanating from the reported meeting in London between some of the party’s governors and All Progressives Congress, APC presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

Details of the meeting were not available but the meeting reflects concerns that the crisis arising from the PDP convention is yet to be resolved.
