New Optics In PDP As Wike, Atiku Reconcile Over Dinner In London Hotel
The camp of Governor Nyesom Wike in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday night resolved to work with the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar following dinner talks in a London hotel upon an agreement that has created a new optics for the party.
The Wike camp was enthusiastic after the meeting as they smiled and posed for photographs with the presidential candidate following the decision of Atiku to yield to their demands, The Punch reported on Friday.

The meeting between the two sides was part of the efforts to resolve that crisis rocking the party ahead of the 2023 general elections.
The meeting came hours after Former President Olusegun Obasanjo appeared to complicate the matters in the PDP with a bold move to nudge the Wike group towards the presidential aspiration of Peter Obi. That move GWG gathered divided the Wike camp as some led by Governor Seyi Makinde were said to have preferred the All Progressives Congress, APC candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
The two Southeast governors in the Wike camp, Okeize Ikpeazu (Abia) and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu) it was gathered, however, preferred Obi.
However, The Punch reports that such permutations appeared to have been clouded by the appearance of Atiku at the London meeting. Atiku was accompanied by Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State to the meeting with Wike and the two PDP governors.
A source who spoke with the Punch after the meeting disclosed that the former Vice President solicited Wike’s support ahead of the 2023 presidential election.
The close PDP associate of Governor Wike further claimed that during the meeting, Atiku agreed to meet all the demands of Wike.
According to the source, the camp of the Rivers State Governor has agreed to work with Atiku in 2023.
The source noted that the details of the agreement between the PDP presidential candidate and Governor Wike in London will be made public.
The source stated, “He (Atiku) has agreed to meet all demands. He will sign an undertaking on all the agreements. Once he can meet them, the Wike group is ready to work with him. The details will be made known.”
Another source speaking on the condition of anonymity told GWG on Friday morning “I may not be able to tell you all that happened yesterday because I have spoken to only one side but what I can say is that we have moved from the narrative of crisis and we have a new optics that we enable us to thrust forward.”
