Chelsea sack Thomas Tuchel

The sack of Thomas Tuchel as head coach of Chelsea just six matches into the Premier League season was not a knee-jerk reaction, GWG Football Desk has reported.

Chelsea are expected to approach Brighton later on Wednesday for permission to speak to Graham Potter about their manager vacancy. Chelsea are also keen to speak to Mauricio Pochettino and Zinedine Zidane, who are both out of work. Todd Boehly has axed Tuchel just three months after completing his takeover of the club.

It is understood Chelsea have been considering this decision for some time and it is not a knee-jerk reaction to Tuesday’s Champions League defeat to Dinamo Zagreb. Now they want a long-term appointment to move Chelsea forward. Chelsea sit sixth in the Premier League with 10 points.

A club statement read: “On behalf of everyone at Chelsea FC, the club would like to place on record its gratitude to Thomas and his staff for all their efforts during their time with the club.

Thomas will rightly have a place in Chelsea’s history after winning the Champions League, the Super Cup and Club World Cup in his time here. Here are three key facts as Chelsea Sack Thomas Tuchel;

• Just 350 days into his tenure as Chelsea boss, Thomas Tuchel became the first manager in the club’s history to guide the Blues to the final of each of the League Cup, FA Cup and European Cup/UEFA Champions League.

• Despite being in charge of Chelsea for just 589 days, no manager has ever reached more major domestic/European finals with the Blues than Thomas Tuchel (4).

• Thomas Tuchel took charge of exactly 100 games during his time as Chelsea boss; in his first 50 the Blues kept 31 clean sheets, but his second 50 saw them keep just 18.
