Russia Turning To Africa, Middle-East For Ties Amid Sanctions
As war in Ukraine continues, President Vladimir Putin has stated that western nations cannot isolate Russia despite sanctions slammed on the country over military invasion of Ukraine with the world power turning to Africa and the Middle East for friends.
Putin declared that Russia is seeking to pivot the country towards the Middle East, Asia and Africa amidst growing isolation and deteriorating ties with the West. He added that partnerships in the region will create new opportunities for Russians.
Speaking at a forum on Wednesday Putin hailed the growing role of the Asia-Pacific region in global affairs.
He commended the increased role of countries of the Asia-Pacific region and believes Russians will tremendously benefit from the global participation.
Putin in a televised remark declared, “No matter how much someone would like to isolate Russia, it is impossible to do this,” Putin told the Eastern Economic Forum in Russia’s Pacific port city of Vladivostok.
The coronavirus epidemic according to him has been replaced by other challenges, also of a global nature, threatening the whole world..
“I mean the sanctions fever in the West, its undisguised aggressive attempts to impose behaviour patterns on other countries, deprive them of their sovereignty and subordinate them to their will,” Putin added.
Recall, Washington and Brussels have slammed Moscow with a barrage of economic and personal sanctions after Putin sent troops into Ukraine on February 24.
In a bid to drum support for the country, Sergey Lavro,v Russian Foreign Minister was last July on a four-nation tour to Africa.
During the visit, Lavrov praised Africa for resisting what he called “undisguised attempts of the US and their European satellites” to impose a unipolar world order.
According to him “We appreciate the considered African position as to the situation in and around Ukraine.”
The minister also praised the “independent path” of African countries in not joining sanctions against Russia despite what he described as “unprecedented” Western pressure.”
