PDP Running Mate Choice: Okowa More Humble, Educated Than Wike, Others – Ayu

National chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Senator Iyorchia Ayu has said that Senator Ifeanyi Okowa was picked over Governor Nyesom Wike and others as vice-presidential candidate because he is more humble, more educated and has executed more projects than all the other rivals.

Speaking during the Northern Christian Youth Assembly Summit in Abuja, Ayu said Atiku, picked Okowa because of humility and more excellent performance in office.

His words: “We looked around and we thought we have to give not just a vice president that will assist him (Atiku) but we did our homework to select a man who is highly educated, very humble, and who has done very well as a governor in his home state.

“Okowa is the most qualified running mate. It is on his own personal merit that he was selected by the party as the vice presidential candidate to Atiku Abubakar. I think Nigeria will be very lucky to have two such people who are committed to development who are detribalised who believe in uniting this country.”

GWG reports that Wike who took second in the presidential primaries had alleged that there was a promise given to him of becoming the presidential running mate but that the plan was truncated subsequently.

He has also accused Ayu of bias alleging that the action of the national chairman in congratulating Governor Aminu Tambuwal for stepping down for Atiku was indicative of the bias the national chairman had for Atiku.

The camp of Wike has also insisted that Ayu should step down as national chairman on the policy that the presidential candidate and the national chairman should not come from the same part of the country.
