The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Senator Iyorcha Ayu in a sign of increasing confidence against the calls for his sack, is set to depart for a 14-day trip to Europe from Wednesday.

Simon Imobo-Tswam, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the PDP Chairman announced this in a statement on Tuesday.

Imobo-Tswam, who did not reveal the reason for the trip, stated that Ayu will return to Nigeria by the end of September.

While he is gone on the trip, the party’s Deputy Chairman (North), Amb Iliya Damagun will stand in for Ayu, the statement deposed.

“The national chairperson has already conveyed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) the transition,” he stated.

The party’s National Executive Council (NEC) gave Ayu a vote of confidence on September 8 following calls for his exit by a section of the party led by Gov Nyesom Wike.

397 members of the NEC, including past national chairmen of the party, the country’s immediate past Vice President, Namadi Sambo, and the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, were accredited for the meeting.

The meeting’s 397 NEC members voted unanimously in favor of Ayu’s continuation as party chairman.

Adolphus Wabara, the acting Chairman of the Board of Trustees and a former Senate President, had put it to a voice vote when the House Minority Leader moved to keep him as the chairman of the party.

GWG reports thatbthe decision by Ayu to embark on the trip could indicate a sense of confidence that he has overcome the crisis.
