ASUU strike threat

Lecturers at the Imo State University IMSU Owerri on Tuesday said that they had not pulled out of the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU.

Odinakachukwu Ejiogu, the chairman of ASUU in IMSU, said that they were still part of the ASUU’s nationwide strike.

Ejiogu, who was reacting to the announcement made by the Public Relations Officer of the varsity, Ralph Obinjoku, calling on lecturers and students to resume academic activities immediately, said that IMSU ASUU chapter was only answerable to the national body.

He said that the university’s lecturers would continue to be on strike until the national body of the union said otherwise.

Ejiogu said, “We have not pulled out of the ASUU strike. We are not back to the classroom either. We will continue to be on strike until the national body of ASUU says otherwise. It is not within the capacity of the University Public Relations Officer or the Vice Chancellor to call-off the strike.”
