The Atiku Abubakar Campaign on Thursday declared Asiwaju Bola Tinubu missing saying it implies a national security threat.

The assertion by the Atiku Campaign has, however, been rebuffed by Festus Keyamo who confirmed two hours later that Tinubu is not missing and that he is well and healthy. Keyamo confirmed the health status of Tinubu following what he claimed was a telephone call to Seyi Tinubu, the candidate’s son.

However, declaring Tinubu as missing, Atiku Campaign spokesman, Dr Daniel Bwala in an interview on AIT’s Kakaki programme, said:

“Even at their meeting of yesterday they were unable to resolve on the day to commence the campaign. Even the candidate is not even around.

“You have to have your candidate before you can start talking of planning. How can you plan when your candidate cannot be seen.

“As it stands today to go by the convention of the spokesman of the APC, (Olorogun Festus Keyamo, SAN) it means that we can say that the candidate is missing because when they asked him where he is your candidate, because if there is anybody as far as the media is concerned who should know about their candidate, it is the spokesmen.

“But he said he doesn’t know the man’s whereabout. So, technically, by their own confession, they are saying that their candidate is missing and that is a national security threat. Because you have to know where your candidate is at any given time and you have to know why and where he is.

“At any given time Atiku travels, we tell the Nigerian people why he travalled. If Atiku travels for medicals we will tell Nigerians he travelled for medicals because he is a human being and anybody can be sick. But the day you see a political party shrouding in secrecy the purpose of the travel of a candidate even before they come to power, doom lies ahead and this is what we must avoid.”

However, appearing on Arise Television’s The Morning Show, Keyamo confirmed that Tinubu is well and not sick or missing. Keyamo said he spoke with Seyi, that morning who confirmed that his father was in good fettles. He, however, did not give an indication that he spoke with the candidate himself.
