The Rivers State House of Assembly on Thursday delisted Celestine Omehia as a former Governor of the state bringing to fore the vengeance of the lawmakers against the former governor who recently walked away from the camp of Governor Nyesom Wike to that of Atiku Abubakar.

The motion was moved by the Leader of the House, Martin Amaewmule, to reverse an earlier resolution of the 8th Assembly on June 30, 2015, which compelled the Executive Arm, headed by Governor Nyesom Wike to recognise Omehia as a former Governor and be accorded all entitlements, privileges and benefits.

The lawmakers passed the motion during a sitting on Thursday.

Following the motion, Celestine Omehia has been asked to refund all monetary entitlement he received as a governor as benefits amounting to N600 million and 96.5 million naira in pension within seven days.

He will also cease to be addressed as His Excellency.

Recall that Omehia was removed in 2007 by the Supreme Court six months after he was declared winner of the state governorship election.

The court ordered that former Governor Rotimi Amaechi be sworn in as Governor.

Omehia was however recognized as governor when Gov. Nyesom Wike came on board in 2015.

He had recently fallen out with Gov. Wike over his support for the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar.
