Peter Obi, the Labour Party presidential candidate was on Friday morning gutting his main rivals in the 2023 presidential election in an opinion poll running on the website of the Kano based Arewa Trust newspaper.

GWG.NG reports that as at 4.00 a.m, that Peter Obi with 4,265 votes was the favourite of 95% of those who had voted and was distantly followed by All Progressives Congress, APC candidate, Bola Tinubu with 110 votes (2.45%), Peoples Democratic Party, PDP’s Atiku Abubakar (1.83%) and Kano based Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP with 24 votes (0.54%).

The poll was commissioned on October 3 by the Kano based newspaper as a way of determining the preferences of likely voters ahead of the poll.

The preference of Obi follows other polls conducted by ANAP Foundation and others which have put Peter Obi as the favourite of the majority of Nigerians.

GWG.NG reports that this poll coming from Arewa Trust newspaper based in Kano is bound to shake earlier doubts cast by critics of the Peter Obi phenomenon currently shaking up the polity.

Peter Obi with his running mate, Datti Baba-Ahmed have gained the confidence of many Nigerian youths who see them as an antidote to the old order.

However, such opinion polls have been dismissed by their rivals who allege that Peter Obi dominates the internet and that his supporters are mostly based abroad who tweet with multiple accounts to give a semblance of popularity that they claim cannot translate to votes.

But how such assertions on Peter Obi could be carried out into the poll carried out by the Kano based Arewa Trust is one that is bound to draw attention.
