40 persons have died from the flooding disaster that has extended to Niger State, Ahmed Ibrahim Inga, Director General of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency, stated on Tuesday.
He revealed that the flood had affected 21 out of 25 communities, affecting 382 communities and affecting fifty thousand people.
According to the Director General, the agency has begun distributing relief materials to all affected areas in the State in accordance with its mandate of assisting victims of floods and other disaster-related issues.
He expressed his condolences to flood victims and assured them that the Agency, with the support of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the State Government, will not relent in providing assistance to victims to alleviate their suffering.
According to Inga, “relief items presented to victims include bags of rice, maize, beans, groundnuts, and red oil, as well as mattresses, buckets, clothing, cups, and baby diapers.”
He also urged residents of the communities to take advantage of the State Government’s Agriculture policies, which would assist farmers in conducting dry season farming in order to reduce their losses caused by the flood.
Apart from Niger State, some other states that have been affected by the flooding include Delta, Kogi, Bayelsa and Anambra States.
