Controversy was breaking out on Friday on the high-level defections from the PDP to the APC in Delta State after former aide to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and two-term state lawmaker, Efe Ofobruku was quoted as renouncing claims of his defection as announced earlier on Thursday by Senator Ovie Omo-Agege.

GWG.NG reports that Efe Ofobruku had visited Omo-Agege during which they took pictures and the Deputy Senate President posted a message on facebook that the former Okowa aide had defected to the APC.

Omo-Agege had vowed that by midnight that there would be no person of stature left in the PDP in Delta State.

That assertion followed some high level defections by some former aides of Okowa in recent days among whom were Senior Special Assistant on Youth Development to Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, Comrade Patrick Oghenerhoro “Paleke”, who recently resigned his appointment and dumped the PDP, and the former Executive Secretary of the Delta State Oil Producing Area Development Commission (DESOPADEC), Chief Andy Osawota.

However, the news on Thursday that Efe Ofobruku had also joined the APC was received with shock among some political actors in the state.

Efe Ofobruku who represented Uvwie State Constituency in the House of Assembly for two terms was supposedly welcomed into the APC by Omo-Agege during the visit on Thursday alongside Delta APC Chairman, Engr Omeni Sobotie, the deputy governorship candidate of the party, Rt. Hon. Friday Osanebi and the Director General of Delta APC Governorship campaign council, Elder Godsday Orubebe.

Following the session, Omo-Agege had said:

“Earlier today, we formally received our brother, Hon. Efe Ofobruku, a former two term member of the Delta State House of Assembly, and former Delta State PDP gubernatorial aspirant into our progressive family, the APC. The day is still young, by midnight, there will be no one left in the PDP. Change for the best has come to stay in Delta State and together, we will build a New Delta that will be anchored on the EDGE agenda.

However, in an update, late on Thursday, Governor Okowa’s senior aide on media, Ossai Success in a post on Facebook denied the claim saying that the former Okowa aide went to Omo-Agege on a personal visit and not politically themed. That claim is despite the pictures of Efe Ofobruku in handshake with the main elements of the Omo-Agege team including campaign manager, Godsday Orubebe and running mate, Friday Osanebi.

According to a post on Ossai’s facebook page that is bound to deepen controversy over the announced defections from the PDP to the APC in Delta, the governor’s aide said:

I just spoke to Hon Efe Ofobruku now and he said he is still in the PDP that he is not decamping to APC.

He also said he visited Omo-Agege today but it was based on a personal relationship.

In his words.

“Ossai , I am still in the PDP and I don’t have any plan of leaving PDP .

APC can not win Delta State , PDP is my home and I am going no where.”

Meanwhile, GWG.NG is yet to establish contact with Efe Ofobruku to confirm his inclination.
