Popular Lagos Doctor, Femi Olaleye To Be Docked For Child Rape On Monday
One of Nigeria’s most high-profile medical doctors and leading gynecologists, Dr Femi Olaleye is to be arraigned in court on Monday for rape of his wife’s niece.
The Lagos Directorate of Public Prosecution, (DPP) confirmed the development at the weekend following a trenchant warfare by some of the country’s leading Nollywood stars who called out Dr Olaleye over the alleged crime.
GWG.NG reports that Olaleye who is the Medical Director of Optimal Cancer Care Foundation is also one of the country’s leading lights in the fight against cervical and breast cancer.
It was in the course of that advocacy that he encountered Kate Henshaw, the Nollywood superstar who became family friends but turned against him following the allegation of rape levelled against him.
The notice of the trial of Dr Femi Olaleye, over the alleged defilement and rape of a 16 year-old girl (name withheld) was issued at the weekend.
The letter of notification titled, “State of Lagos vs Dr Olufemi Olaleye,” signed by the Principal State Council of DPP, Mr Oluwagbenga Alagbe and made available to newsmen on Sunday in Lagos.
Alagbe stated that the arraignment would be coming before Justice Ramon Oshodi of the Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court in Ikeja on Monday, Nov. 21.
“Olaleye will be facing a two-count charge of defilement and sexual assault by penetration.
“He must appear before the Honourable Court and also make provision for a legal practitioner of his choice,” Alagbe said.
The DPP’s Principal State Council also said a copy of the Information Papers and proof of Evidence were attached to the notification of arraignment already sent to the accused. (NAN)
GWG.NG reports that Kate Henshaw and another star actress cum comedienne, Damilola Adekoya popularly known as Princess had launched the campaign to prosecute Dr Femi Olaleye after the rape case came to light at the end of last year.
