Tanzania Sacrifices Independence Day Festivities For Kids’ Dormitories

President Samia Suluhu Hassan of Tanzania, has suspended festivities planned for the country’s Independence Day celebration set to take place this Friday, December 9.

Hassan ordered that the $445,000 allotted for the 61st Independence Day celebration be used to construct dormitories for kids with special needs.

George Simbachawene, Tanzania’s minister of state, said on Monday that the funds had been distributed. He stated that in honor of Independence Day, public discussions on development will be held in the nation of East Africa.

Eight dormitories will be built in primary schools across the nation with the help of the funding.

GWG.ng reports that the festival has frequently been postponed by previous Tanzanian administrations.

In 2015, the country’s then-President John Magufuli suspended ceremonies and used the money to build a road in Dar es Salaam, the commercial center. He repeated it in 2020 and instructed that medical facility purchases be made from the budget.

Besides the news that Tanzania is to forego Independence Day festivities, GWG.ng reports that Cristiano Ronaldo cut an isolated figure as Portugal stunned with a 6-1 victory over Switzerland on Tuesday. The star walked off the pitch while his team-mates continued to celebrate their stunning performance on the field.

The Portuguese captain made his own way to the dressing room following the game having been dropped by coach Fernando Santos.
