The Nigerian ambassador to Spain, Demola Seriki and a close political associate of APC presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has died at the age of 63.

The news of his death was made public in a statement signed by his children, the former minister was said to have passed away “surrounded by his family” on Thursday, December 15.

“It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude to Almighty Allah that we announce the loss of our much loved and admired patriarch, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend,” the statement reads.

GWG.ng reports that Seriki was an associate of Asiwaju Tinubu but along the way he defected to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP a development that offered him the opportunity of serving as minister of state for defence.

He, however, subsequently returned to the camp of Tinubu and became a prominent figure in his political camp.

Born on November 30, 1959, the late Seriki as Nigeria’s Ambassador to Spain, had concurrent accreditation as permanent representative of Nigeria to the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).

The development is bound to cast a shadow of gloom on political developments in Lagos and Tinubu was yet to respond to the news of the death of Demola Seriki on Thursday morning.
