The Muhammadu Buhari administration is set to snub a court order forbidding it from inaugurating a new board for the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC multiple sources have informed GWG.ng

Informed sources disclosed that invitations are being dispatched to stakeholders to witness the inauguration being primed to hold on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at the Congress Hall of the Transcorp Hilton Hotel.

Ms Lauretta Onochie, the rabid Buhari supporter who is stepping down as Special Assistant to the President with his confirmation as chairman of the new NDDC board met with the president last Wednesday, December 28, 2022 apparently in readiness for the inauguration.

GWG.ng had earlier reported that a Federal High Court in Abuja penultimate Friday advised President Buhari, the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, the Senate of the National Assembly, Mrs. Lauretta Onochie and Chief Samuel Ogbuku on the consequences of flouting an earlier restraining order even as it stopped the inauguration of the new NDDC board.

In a notice of consequences of disobedience to order of court dated 23rd day of December 2022, the court passed directions to President Buhari, Lawan, Onochie and Ogbuku.

“Take notice that unless you obey the directions contained in this order, you will be guilty of contempt of court and will be liable to be committed to prison’’ the Federal High and with it the court put a stop to the inauguration of the board of the NDDC as confirmed by the Senate.

The presiding judge, Justice J. K. Omotosho, had earlier instructed that all actions on the confirmation of the nominees to  be suspended pending the determination of the suit filed by some stakeholders representing the Itsekiri nation.

GWG.ng reports that stakeholders allege that there is suspicion over attempts by some to rush through the inauguration despite outstanding issues over the forensic examination of the finances of the commission. Central to the suspicion is the N450 billion recovered for the commission by the EFCC.

“They want to ensure that the new board is able to utilize the N450 billion recovered for the commission by the EFCC and we know that is why they are rushing to inaugurate the board,” a stakeholder familiar with the developments in the commission told GWG.ng of the rush by the Buhari government to inaugurate the NDDC board despite the court order.
