Adamu Garba, a former 2023 presidential aspirant in the the All-Progressives Congress (APC) has accused President Olusegun Obasanjo of being envious of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the party’s presidential candidate.

Garba made this claim in a message on his verified Twitter account on Sunday in response to Obasanjo’s endorsement of Peter Obi, the Labour Party, LP’s presidential candidate, in the upcoming election.

Recall that Obasanjo endorsed Obi over other presidential candidates for the 2023 election, stating he is still the better choice, in a lengthy New Year’s letter to Nigerians.

Garba, however, resorted to his Twitter account to voice his disgust with the sponsorship.

“Envy is an enormous sickness,” he wrote. I have always respected and still respect General Olusegun Obasanjo. He should, however, get over his envy of Tinubu at this point in his life, I advise him.

“Obasanjo is fervently jealous of Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s ascension and success; his loss (sic) in this one is certain to come,” the statement reads.

“Obasanjo never wanted any Yoruba man to grow above him while he was still living,” Garba continued. However, Bola Tinubu, his fiercest political foe, who ousted him from Southwest politics, is aiming to become Nigeria’s president. You should not be surprised by his conduct.

“Obasanjo wants to continue using the title of GCFR as the only living Yoruba man. Never did he want anyone to understand that. But we will guarantee him this: By God’s Grace, we will invite him to Tinubu’s swearing-in ceremony on May 29, 2023, when he will take office as commander in chief and GCFR,” Garba said in his claim of Obasanjo being envious of Tinubu.
