Ojota calm clash

Calm has been restored to the Ojota area of Lagos after early morning clashes between Yoruba Nation agitators and Police left at least one person dead on Monday morning.

The trouble started after Police on Monday morning moved in to disperse a rally of Yoruba Nation agitators who had given prior notice of their plans for a rally. It was not immediately confirmed if they had a police permission for the rally.

An unspecified number of persons were also said to have been injured over the clash.

GWG.ng reports that the Yoruba Nation agitators had planned for the rally but their well publicized plans for the peaceful rally turned violent under circumstances that were not immediately available.

There were reports that the police fired gunshots into the air as a way of dispersing the crowd mostly made up of activists of the Odua Peoples Congress, OPC and other sympathisers of the Yoruba Nation.

Some reports alleged that as many as three persons may have been killed during the clash. AAC presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore in his intervention alleged two persons killed.

However, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hudenyin has said that one person lost his life.

He stated that policemen were in the area to ensure calm.

GWG.ng reports that by 11.00 a.m. calm had been restored to the Ojota area after Police swarmed the area and overwhelmed the Yoruba Nation agitators in the early morning clash.
