Will Tinubu Be A Dictator? Questions After New Fight With Arise TV

Published

on

Nigerians were on Saturday reacting on the prospects of the APC presidential candidate turning into a dictator after the Bola Tinubu Campaign accused Arise News Television of espionage following the live stream of his interactive session with the Nigerian Economic Summit Group, NESG.

The interactive session with the business community offered Tinubu an opportunity to make a robust presentation of his economic blueprint where he among others listed his priorities in the first 100 days in office should he be elected president.

GWG.ng reports that Arise News TV had livestreamed the presentation as Tinubu read from a teleprompter before the transmission was truncated before the commencement of the interactive session.

The Tinubu Campaign’s director of publicity, Bayo Onanuga accused Arise News of being on espionage for covering the session live without authorization.

He said:

GWG.ng reports that the tweet was trailed by positive and negative reactions on the prospects of press freedom in a Tinubu presidency with some wondering if the candidate could turn into a dictator.

MrGeez @gnwonye @aonanuga1956

What are you hiding from public glare? You should be ashamed of yourself Mr Onanuga at yr age of almost 70 if not over. You are a journalist and the least you can do is protect yr profession. Hope the way you are going your children won’t also serve Tinubu grandchildren. Shame

Danny Young @DanielAyorinde1

This is one of many warning signals that if Tinubu is mistakenly elected, he definitely be more oppressive, suppressive, dictatorial and divisive in his approach to governance than Buhari. We deserve much better this time around.

Abdulquddus (CEO Q uniQ Couture &Co @LawalQudus19

Arise TV have to take permission b4 doing any coverage If the permission is granted, they can now proceed It’s all about protocol @aonanuga1956

Chidi Ndukwe @A2J4_Chidi

That was really bad of you guys to deny us skit for the weekend. Now we have to imagine if it’s soaked bread or roasted corn that is on the menu for the weekend. Please don’t be hiding this jokes like Buhari hid palliative during COVID. February is not far again. Retirement……

Afolabi Sanni @sanniafo saying that the Tinubu squabble with Arise News could shadow the coming of a dictator said:

The APC campaign council is setting a bad precedence for political reportage in this country. @ARISEtv is a national station with global outreach. Am yet to hear that the PDP campaign council is sending TVC cameraman out of their campaign programs.

SPACE ( D12 ) @mertromat

How many report has @ARISEtv done on Atiku and other candidates? Can you show us engagement of Atiku not pictures pls . Let’s see who are the Nigerians he is talking to because they keep saying Tinubu is not talking yet we all see him talking every day for the past 2 weeks.

Guarantor @Guarantor2011

Early signs that Tinubu’s administration will surely censor the media A journalist is free to do his job at any time and anywhere Surprised that a ‘retired’ journalist is condemning a vibrant media for doing his/her job Guess, you are trying to hide things Sad

Momopee @Momopee2

A journalist must get clearance to cover people’s events. Why is a journalist stalking someone? Why was he there uninvited? What if the “journalist” was a terrorist in disguise? Other media houses were there so u have no point about press suppression.

Chikwado Anyanwụ @chikwadoca

Dictator spotted. A vote for Tinubu is a vote for dictatorship

Chief of Staff @DhapoBold

So discussing economy of a country has become a private event especially when the country is going through economy crisis and we need to hear from the presidential candidates their plans Arise TV is a national media house and your party needs to respect freedom of press.

Ufot Skindo. @AfiaUfot

An act like this from Tinubu’s PCC and APC are warning shots of what is the evil that will befall the press and dissents with Tinubu as President. Why are you concealing his opinions and shielding him from being audited by Nigerians? We’ve still not learnt from 2015 & 2019.

@wuyi_oyetunde @WOyetunde

come out boldly and tell the world that your party is a secret society. You want to lead this country and you are sending journalists away from an event that on paper, you should be the guest. How was it a “Bola Tinubu event?” Peter Obi will retire you guys.

Ogemdi Udegbunam 🇳🇬 @RealOgemdi

Tinubu is running to be Nigeria’s President, his engagements should be open to the Nigerian people. What is he hiding ?

Agrippa @SweetAgrippa @aonanuga1956

Tinubu is supposedly a public figure that shouldn’t be hiding from cameras more so as he’s vying for presidency… How long will Tinubu run from live press interviews and coverage, APC people shielding Tinubu from committing more blunders?
