Confusion Trails Reports On Police Siege To Emefiele’s House

There was confusion over the alleged police siege to the official residence of Governor Godwin Emefiele of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN after police spokesman, CSP Muyiwa Adejobi denied the viral reports on the development on Tuesday night. reports that there had been reports that police men had mounted a siege to the residence of the CBN governor in the Maitama area of Abuja on Tuesday night.

The police it was alleged were deployed to enforce his presence at a court hearing on Wednesday over a case arising from the judgement given on the case concerning the $53m Paris Club refund by some consultants which the CBN governor had shied away from enforcing. had reported that the court had served an order for the apex banker to be in court on Wednesday over the matter.

Police sources, however, said that the deployment of the men was to ensure that Emefiele appeared in court on Wednesday.

Nevertheless, the Force headquarters on Tuesday night said it was unaware of any deployment of police personnel to the Abuja home of the governor of Central Bank, Godwin Emefiele.

Reacting to reports that policemen were laying seige on the CBN governors,  Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Muyiwa Adejobi told Vanguard, “I am not aware,” deepening controversies over the deployment. reports that besides the $53m court case, the CBN governor had been the subject of much speculation over an alleged move by the Department of State Services to arrest him over alleged issues said to be centred on terrorism financing. CSOs, have, however, debunked the allegation saying that the CBN boss was being pursued by those opposed to the cash withdrawal policy recently introduced by the apex bank.
