Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State has denied claims of vengeance against the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, Dr Ado Ibrahim over the query issued the monarch arising from his absence during the recent state visit to the state by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Speaking in an interview Governor Yahaya Bello affirmed his blood relationship with the Ohinoyi and the fact that he is second cousins to the children of the monarch.

He spoke against claims that the monarch was served a query for being absent because of claims that the governor had the feeling that the Ohinoyi does not like him and didn’t want him as governor.

In the interview on Channels Television monitored by GWG.ng, Governor Yahaya Bello while noting his relationship with the Ohinoyi said:

“His mother and my grandfather are brothers and sisters with the same parents. Ohinoyi and my father are first cousins. Myself and his children are second cousins, so we are related in blood.

“Ohinoyi of Ebiraland is a man I so much revere and respect and not from today, but right from my childhood. Everybody knows that and Ohinoyi himself can attest to that and the cordial relationship between myself and his children can attest to that and nobody can come out and quote me as saying that Ohinoyi does not like me. If he does not like his son who would he like? If a father does not like his son who would he like?

“But lets separate personal relationship from governance. The traditional institution in Kogi State know how I respect them, how much I adore them, protect them and continue to elevate them. I don’t think that there is any governor that has elevated traditional more than me,” Governor Yahaya Bello said of the relationship between him and the Ohinoyi.

“But we have to separate administration from personal relationships. We are taking steps to ensuring that nobody goes outside his official mandate. It would interest you to note that I don’t have my blood relations, my brothers or sisters that I appointed into this administration and this is simply so that I could discipline or reward when the need be.

“One of the hallmarks of leadership and administration is ability to reward and discipline. If you err, I won’t care who you are, I will discipline you. If you do well, I wouldn’t care whether I know you, I will reward you. So, an administrative process in handling the issue is ongoing and that is why I have declined severally to make comments on it,” Governor Yahaya Bello said of the query served on the Ohinoyi.
