Four suspected kidnappers who allegedly failed in their bid to kidnap a two-year-old have been detained by the Zamfara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.

The suspects were detained on January 21 in Angwa Shado, a suburb of Gusau metropolis, for the “attempted violent kidnapping” of a youngster who was being carried by his 13-year-old sister as she was out running errands in the neighborhood, according to command spokeswoman Ikor Oche.

The infant was apparently taken from her as the ran into an unfinished building.

The young girl sounded the alarm, drawing the attention of neighborhood residents who eventually found the stolen child at the unfinished structure, resulting in the four suspects, who were between the ages of 20 and 25, being arrested.

When confronted, the suspects said they were only inside the building to smoke marijuana and denied any knowledge of the suspected crime.

According to the NSCDC, preliminary investigations showed that the four suspects were present at the scene of the crime, and the sister of the allegedly abducted child had recognized two of them.

The individuals that were detained have been named as Muslim Sani, 25, Abdulrazak Bashir, 20, Tukur Bello, 24, and Jafar Lawal, 23.

After the inquiry is over, the suspects will be hauled to court.
