Governors, EFCC Chair, Others Update Buhari On Governance In Saudi Arabia

Confusion was on Saturday shadowing the postponement of the visit of President Muhammadu Buhari to Kano State following differing reasons for the postponement.

GWG.ng reports that Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano state confirmed that he sent a letter to the Presidency to seek postponement of President Muhammadu Buhari’s visit to the state for commissioning of projects.

President Buhari was expected to pay a one-day visit to the state on Monday.

Governor Ganduje said he acted out of concern of the tension arising from the naira redesign policy of the Federal Government that he claimed had led to the inability of the new naira notes in the state.

Speaking during an interactive session with scholars, legislators, political  leaders and business community in the state at Government House, Kano, he said:

“As we are waiting for this important visit, we found ourselves in this situation, which puts citizens into untold hardship. For security purpose we wrote to Presidency that President Muhammadu Buhari’s visit to Kano be postponed.

“We got an acknowledgement copy of the letter. People are really suffering because  of this policy.

“There are no banks in most of our rural communities. How these people get new Naira notes is of great concern. Just look at what is happening in our urban areas, people go and spend hours upon hours in banks. And without any assurances of getting the new notes.”

Ganduje emphasized that Kano being a commercial hub must be heard loudly, insisting that, “This problem affects all of us. Therefore our voice must be heard in all nooks and crannies. We are a commercial hub. As such our position must be loud and clear.”

However, Daily Trust in a report on the meeting deposed that there were also indications that the decision was connected to the recent protest by some people in Katsina state when President Buhari visited to commission some  projects executed by the Aminu Masari led state government.

GWG.ng reports that there were reports of demonstrations in some areas where Buhari commissioned projects instigated by some youths who shouted against the Buhari government.

“Some of the residents also booed President Buhari along the IBB way within the Katsina metropolitan area when the convoy of the president was heading to the newly constructed Revenue House for inauguration,” Thisday said in its report on the incident that further raised confusion on the reason for the shift of the visit of Buhari to Kano.
