Obi Accepts El-Rufai’s Cast As Actor, Mobilises Support From Nollywood

Peter Obi has taken the challenge from Nasir El-Rufai of being a Nollywood actor and asked all those in the industry to support him in the presidential election so that he can lift the fortunes of the industry.

He spoke after Governor El-Rufai had in an interview dismissed his chances in the election alleging that the Labour Party presidential candidate is a Nollywood actor depending on the votes of the Christian population in the North who he dismissed as insignificant.

Governor El-Rufai in dismissing Obi had said:

“He is polling in the Christian enclaves in the North but how many are they? Peter Obi cannot win the election. He doesn’t have the number of states, he doesn’t have 25 per cent in more 16 states, the last time we checked. He can’t go anywhere.

“Peter Obi is a Nollywood actor and that’s all he will be. This election is between the APC and the PDP because they have the footprint, they have the spread. Ethnicity and religious bigotry will not take you anywhere and that’s what the Labour Party campaign is all about,” he said.

Responding to El-Rufai on his prowess as a Nollywood actor in an interview with Arise News on Sunday, Obi said:

“I thank El-Rufai for what he is saying. At least he gave me some percentage, so I am going to work hard to increase that percentage. “And he implied the fact that I am an actor and I think what is holding this country from developing is preventing those engines that will develop us.

“One of the most critical places I want to focus is improving our entertainment industry which includes Nollywood. Now, that I am an acclaimed actor I am asking all those who are involved in the entertainment industry to support me so that I can improve their positions.

“What else can you do when those in the industry recognize you as one of them. I urge them to support me so that we can be able to ensure that the business improve,” Obi said in response to the claim from El-Rufai of being a Nollywood actor.
