Super Eagles Assistant Coaches Denied Payment After Nine Months.

Nine months after being hired by the Nigeria Football Federation, three assistant coaches hired for Super Eagles Manager, Jose Peseiro are yet to receive their contracts, salaries, or allowances.

After parting ways with Franco-German Gernot Rohr, the NFF announced on May 15, 2022, the appointment of Portuguese Peseiro as the new head coach of the Eagles.

The football organization also named Salisu Yusuf and Finidi George, both former internationals, as his assistants, and Ike Shorunmu as the goalkeeper’s trainer.

Punch reported that despite numerous promises from the NFF, the assistant coaches have not received contracts or compensation for their work.

One of the affected coaches, who spoke on the condition of anonymity out of fear of retaliation, said: “Right now, I don’t even know if I have any contract with the NFF because we have not signed any contract document since they named us assistant coaches last May.”

Recall that in November, journalist Osasu Obayiwana claimed on Twitter that the NFF owed Peseiro, who earns $70,000 per month, six months’ worth of wages and that they owed him a total of $420,000.

According to the Punch report, Peseiro’s three assistants are covered by the $70,000 monthly salary, but the Nigerian coaches who are associated with the team are paid differently.

Following FIFA’s intervention after the NFF’s termination of Rohr’s contract in December 2021, the federation is now making good on the backlog of unpaid salaries for the player.

The coaches had not yet received payment, a federation official claimed, placing the blame on the organization’s Legal Unit.

I genuinely believe that the Legal Unit has been moving too slowly to prepare their contracts (for coaches). Our source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said that it is no secret that the team owes money for a number of games.
