Amid tense relationships between the presidency and some leading governors in the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC over the naira swap policy of the Federal Government, the Senator Abdullahi Adamu-led National Working Committee, NWC has summoned the party’s governors to an emergency meeting on Sunday in Abuja.

The meeting is holding in the final week leading to the Saturday Presidential and National Assembly elections.

GWG.ng reports that the meeting is coming in the wake of the crisis spurred by the naira note swap.

Though the agenda for the meeting was not disclosed, it was gathered that it may not be unconnected with developments in the polity, especially the current cash crunch and its effects on campaigns.

“The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), His Excellency, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, invites State Governors of the Party to an emergency meeting to be held on Sunday, February 19, 2023, by 2 pm at the National Secretariat, Abuja”, party spokesman, Felix Morka said in a message sent out Friday night.

The NWC has not formally responded to the crisis arising from the naira note controversy that arose after the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN initiated the redesign of the nation’s major bank notes.

The majority of the party’s governors have taken a position against the note change and the decision to summon the governors may help the APC to smoothen what many have seen as the internal war in the party over the issue.
