Messi Hits Assist Record In PSG’s 2-1 Win At Brest

Lionel Messi sublimely set up Kylian Mbappe in the 90th minute to secure a narrow 2-1 away win against Brest, as Paris Saint-Germain even as he set for himself a new record in assists. The win also helped PSG in their continued charge for Ligue 1 success.

The Parisians took the lead initially through Spaniard Carlos Soler, but the home side drew level soon enough. Christophe Galtier’s side who were just eliminated from the UEFA Champions League in their last game were now on the verge of another disappointment. Several chances came and went for the league leaders as a slip up was looking like the probable outcome.

However, up stepped their all-time highest goalscorer Kylian Mbappe who clinically converted a strike from Lionel Messi’s superb through ball. The Argentine set up Mbappe who scored his 202nd goal for Le Parisiens, while Messi himself registered his 300th club assist remaining the player with the most assists in football history with 353.

Meanwhile, GWG.ng reports that the new record in assists by Messi came as across the English channel, Arsenal restored their five-point lead at the top of the Premier League with an emphatic 3-0 victory over Fulham on Sunday and carved out a small slice of top-flight history in the process.

Gabriel, Gabriel Martinelli and captain Martin Odegaard all scored in the first half as the Gunners became the first team to win five consecutive away London derbies without conceding a single goal.

Leandro Trossard provided a trio of assists as Mikel Arteta’s side took advantage of Fulham’s porous defence at Craven Cottage.
