Desmond Elliot’s bid to retain his seat in the Lagos State House of Assembly despite strong criticism from some quarters, especially Nigerian youths, over his comments during the #ENDSARS protests has received the strong backing of Efe Irele, a Nollywood actress and a resident of Surulere.

In a social media post, she explained why she believes the actor turned politician deserves another term in office.

“I believe in Desmond Elliot, not because I know him but because I have seen what he has done as an individual and as a lawmaker,” she wrote.

Irele went on to highlight some of the positive actions that Elliot has taken to improve the lives of people in Surulere, such as providing free shuttle buses for students and offering free healthcare and insurance to residents.

She also praised Elliot for his support of the creative industry in Lagos, citing his encouragement of young Lagosians like herself.

“Desmond Elliot is a good representative, and I will be supporting and voting for him on Saturday,” Efe Irele said.

Elliot’s comments during the #ENDSARS protests sparked outrage among many Nigerian youths, who felt that he was out of touch with their concerns.

The actor turned politician apologized for his comments, but the damage had already been done, and many young people in Surulere and across Nigeria vowed to vote against him in the upcoming election.

Despite the backlash, Elliot has continued to campaign vigorously, touting his achievements in office and pledging to do more for his constituents if re-elected.

He has promised to continue to support the creative industry in Lagos, create more job opportunities for young people, and improve infrastructure in Surulere.

However, some Nigerians in Surulere have said that they will vote for the Labour Party candidate, Olumide Oworu, citing a lack of faith in Elliot’s ability to represent their interests.
