The penultimate governor of Enugu State, Senator Senator Chimaroke Nnamani has lost his bid for a third term in the Senate, losing the seat to the Labour Party candidate, Sir Kelvin Chukwu who entered the race barely two weeks ago.

GWG.ng reports that the Labour Party candidate Sir Kelvin Chukwu polled 69, 136 to beat Chimaroke of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who scored 48, 701 votes to represent the Enugu East Senatorial District.

Kelvin was nominated about two weeks ago to replace his brother, Oyibo Chukwu, who was murdered a few days before the Feb. 25 presidential and National Assembly elections.

Sir Kelvin Chukwu is the younger brother of the late Oyibo Chukwu who was murdered days to the scheduled National Assembly election on February 25, 2023.

The murder forced the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC to defer the election to March 18, 2023.

Meanwhile, besides the loss by Nnamani of his Enugu Senate seat, Dr Uchenna Okafor, Speaker, Anambra State House of Assembly has also lost his re-election bid for Ayamelum Constituency seat to his PDP rival.

INEC Returning Officer, Prof. George Onwudiwe declared the result in Ayamelum on Sunday.

Onwudiwe said that Mr Abuchi Udemezue of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) scored 12,993 votes to defeat Okafor of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), who polled 11,445 votes

“That Mr Abuchi Udemezue of PDP having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of votes is hereby declared winner and is returned elected, ” he said.
