The Delta State governorship battle was on Sunday afternoon moving from the collation centre to the realm of social media with the two major political parties, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and the All Progressives Congress, APC squaring off with different figures on the outcome of the election.

GWG.ng reports that the PDP is believed to have swept the polls according to the official results in Delta North, the two Isoko Local Government Areas and made considerable incursion into the Delta Central Senatorial District that the APC had claimed as its stronghold.

Checks on the already uploaded to INEC’s IREV indicate that PDP is in early strong lead in the three Senatorial districts of the state.

The PDP gubernatorial candidate, Sheriff Oborevwori from results on the INEC website is ahead of his main opponent who is the current Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege in 16 of the 19 local government areas that have been uploaded.

However, Thenewsguru reported earlier on Sunday of massive thumb printing in Ethiope West in Ughelli West strongholds of Chief James Ibroi and Senator Omo-Agege.

Also, the PDP also issued a statement accusing a Reps-elect and an INEC official, Mrs. Odiurho Rhoda Oke, of colluding to rig the election in Ethiope West, Ward 7 and 8.

The duo, the statement said, snatched ballot boxes under the cover of darkness and are now falsifying results to favor the APC, despite a clear victory for the PDP.

Dr Ifeanyi Osuoza who signed the release implored Deltans to call the Electoral Officer of Ward 7 & 8 in Ethiope West, Mrs. Odiurho Rhoda Oke, and demand that she stops her alleged collusion with the Reps-elect.

“Don’t let your vote go to waste – let your voice be heard and demand justice for the people!” Another statement said.

However, the assertions of the PDP in Delta were countered by the APC which in a statement issued through Ima Niboro, spokesman of the Omo-Agege Campaign claimed that the APC candidate was in massive lead after the election.

He said:

“Results so far made available to the APC Campaign Council indicate that the APC has trounced the PDP in two senatorial districts of Delta South and Delta Central and is neck to neck with the PDP in Delta North senatorial district.

“We wish to advise our party members, faithful and supporters to disregard the plethora of discouraging information flowing in the Social Media to the contrary,  and encourage you to keep hope alive as the leadership of the party are doing all possible to checkmate the massive rigging the PDP is onto.

“Deltans have massively votes for the APC and their votes must surely count. Be assured that the APC will ultimately emerge as the well deserved winner of the election in spite of all the desperate moves of the PDP to thwart the will of the people.”
