How Wike’s Vow About Fight With Ayu Just Starting Could Harm PDP
A Makurdi High Court on Monday granted an ex-parte application seeking an interim injunction to restrain Mr lyorchia Ayu from parading himself as the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) underlining the vow by his leading foe, Governor Nyesome Wike that their fight has just started.
Ayu was dragged before the court by Mr Conrad Utaan, Chairman of his Igyorov Ward of the party in Gboko Local Government Area of Benue,
Also joined in the matter is the PDP.
The Ward officials are accusing Ayu of anti-party activities.
Utaan principally sought an order of interim injunction restraining Ayu from parading himself as the National Chairman of PDP having lost membership of the party after the Ward suspended him.
They want him to stay away from the party pending the hearing and determination of the Motion on Notice already filed.
The application was supported by a 15-paragraphs affidavit to which was annexed three exhibits marked as Exhibits A1, A2 and B.
Among the exhibits are the applicant’s PDP membership card, receipts for payment of dues and a vote of no confidence passed on Ayu by the Executive Council members of Igyorov Ward of PDP in Gboko Local Government, Benue.
In a written address before the court, counsel for the applicant, Mr Mike Assoh, asked the court to restrain Ayu from parading himself as the National Chairman of PDP pending the hearing and determination of the motion seeking for his suspension.
Ruling, the presiding judge, Justice W.I. Kpochi, held that considering the pool of affidavits before the court and the issues distilled in the written address by the applicant’s counsel, it was proper to grant the interim injunction as craved.
The case was adjourned to April 17, 2023 for hearing.(NAN)
Meanwhile, Wike speaking at the inauguration of the re-modelled Community Secondary School, Okoro-nu-Odo, Obio-Akpor Local Government Area (LGA) on Monday, declared that the fight with person who couldn’t deliver the party in his unit, ward, LGA or state in the 2023 general elections could not be allowed to preside over the party.
He alleged, “Ask those who want to be chairman of this party (PDP), what do you have to give now? Presidential election; you took bribe, and lost in your unit, lost in your ward, lost in your local government and lost in your State. Which party will you preside over now?
“Those fighting that they have suspended him, you have not seen anything yet. The fight has started. Ayu, the fight has just started. If you know him, those of you who are close to him, tell him, Iyorchia Ayu, the fight has just started.
“Will you preside over the one (Rivers PDP) I have secured victory for? You want to come and preside over this State so that we will begin to donate money to the party? Bring your own State to the party too, so your State can contribute money to the national. If you don’t deliver your State, you can’t preside over us. You cannot.”
What Court Injunction To Restrain Ayu Means For PDP Chairman
GWG.ng reports that the import of the fight is that all actions likely to be taken by Ayu in the period before the order is set aside could be considered as illegal. Such actions could include the activities to be played by the national chairman in the nomination process of the party’s candidates in the forthcoming primaries to elect governorship candidates of the party for Imo, Kogi and Bayelsa States.
Even more, it is expected that the the heightened crisis could further ensnare the party in its prosecution of its case at the Presidential Election Tribunal.
