Man Becomes Paralysed After Blowing His Nose

A man has been paralysed after hitting his neck in a restroom while blowing his nose and was only found by his partner.

Kirsty Bronner, 34, from Sydney, Australia described how she found her partner unconscious on the floor of their Australian house after hearing a “loud bang emanating from their toilet.”

She said that he had passed out and injured his neck as he fell, leaving him lying unconscious.

Kirsty described the family’s distress at having to accept his immobility in the wake of the event on January 2 of last year.

“I rushed in and found my partner lying unconscious on the floor. He had hit his neck and dislocated it causing a C6/7 spinal cord injury. He had blown his nose and fainted, hitting his neck on the bathroom bench,” Kirsty reportedly said.

Covid limitations at the time prevented her from entering the hospital, and after her spouse underwent a six-hour procedure, she endured a torturous six-hour wait for an update on his status.

“I was so sick with worry. Eventually they rang and said he had a neck dislocation from hitting the bench, which had caused a spinal cord injury and wouldn’t know the extent of the injuries until they had done surgery and done tests,” she told the Daily Mail.

The day before the disaster, Kirsty’s unnamed partner claimed he felt like “something horrible was on the way,” and she admitted that this has given her the “chills.”

Although Kirsty took care of their four children – Lucas, 16, Valentina, 7, Viktoria, 5, and Vitalia, 18 months – and ran her business, The Booty Co., her partner spent the following six months in the hospital and going through rehabilitation.

More than a year later, her partner, who used to run every day, has T1 level paralysis, making it impossible for him to stand after that fateful day he became paralysed after blowing his nose.

Kirsty described the time after the accident as “the emotional and mental difficulties produced were so great that I could not at all tend to the business.”

While her partner’s odds of making a full recovery are remote, Kirsty said it has been the “toughest moment” of her life and she now devotes all of her spare time to running her business.
