A YouTube content producer was shot after allegedly pulling a “simple prank” on a total stranger inside a mall and is now in critical condition in hospital.

Tanner Cook, 21, was shot while shooting at the Dulles Town Center shopping center in Virginia when a dispute erupted with Alan Colie, 31, of Leesburg, Virginia. Cook was shot in the stomach and liver, and he spent several days in critical care.

It’s unclear what Cook was doing at the time, but he has in the past forced strangers to play naked Twister and pretended to throw up on an Uber driver.

Colie was charged on Monday, April 3, with severe malicious wounding and using a gun while committing those crimes.

Cook spoke after undergoing surgery, and said he had been playing a joke on Colie for another video. I was pulling a simple practical joke on this person, and he didn’t take it very well, the man claimed. Cook’s companion was filming the incident when Colie reportedly pulled a gun.

The YouTuber’s father, Jeremy Cook said: “They were making a video at the mall and trying to have fun with people and this guy wasn’t having fun. There was a phone that was around him and they were interviewing or talking to him, and he didn’t like it and he pulled out his gun and shot my son.

“I pray for this young man and pray that he finds God in this. I believe that God saved our son’s life, and he could have easily died but that’s not the outcome. God has plans for my son,” he said following the youtube prank that went wrong.
