Burnely promoted premiership

Vincent Kompany’s tutored Burnley late on Friday secured promotion to the premiership despite a leveler raised by Middlesbrough’s Nigeria born Chuba Akpom in their championship duel.

Burnley riding on the wave of an unbeaten 19 game run came into the game with Middlesbrough with a 19-point lead over their nearest rival, Luton.

Ashley Barnes had put Burnley ahead on the goal sheet before the Nigerian levelled for Middlesbrough through a penalty.

However, Connor Roberts finished it off for Bunrley late in the game following an assist from Nathan Tella throwing the Burnley crowd into ecstasy.

GWG.ng reports that the promotion to the premiership looked an uncertain prospect only 12 months ago when Vincent Kompany who established a reputation in Manchester City was appointed manager of Burnley.

The Sun reports that two straight defeats have blown Middlesbrough’s chances of gatecrashing the top two, and they need to pick themselves up quickly to ensure a top-six finish.

They sit seven points above Norwich in seventh with six games to play, starting at Bristol City on Monday.

But tonight was all about Burnley. And if Premiership fans haven’t been watching, get ready for a Burnley like no other.
