Elon Musk, the CEO of Twitter, stated that the social media platform is “roughly breaking even,” as the majority of its advertisers have returned and its aggressive cost-cutting measures have begun to pay off following significant layoffs.

In an interview with the BBC that was streamed live on Twitter Spaces on Wednesday, April 12, Elon Musk said that the number of employees at Twitter had fallen from “just under 8,000 staff members” when he took over the company in October to currently about 1,500.

Since Musk purchased Twitter for $44 billion, it has been characterized by instability and uncertainty, and according to sources, engineers who are in charge of preventing service failures have also been laid off from the company.

GWG.ng reports that Twitter experienced its sixth significant outage since the start of the year last week due to a problem that stopped thousands of users from accessing links.

Musk recognized some issues, such as recent outages, but claimed they were short-lived. He claims that Twitter had to take extraordinary measures due to a $3 billion negative cash flow crisis, which included mass layoffs.

If things go well, we might be cash-flow positive this quarter, he stated in the interview, which attracted more than 3 million listeners.

The dramatic drop in Twitter’s advertising after his acquisition, according to Musk, is the result of the cyclical nature of ad spending, some of which is “political.” The majority of its advertisers, he claimed on Wednesday, have come back.

Despite being questioned by Tesla investors about how much time he spends running the social media network, the billionaire claimed he has no one in mind to succeed him as Twitter CEO.
