Man Abducts, Rapes 17-Year-Old Girl In Lagos

An Ogudu Magistrate’s Court in Lagos on Monday, April 17, 2023 ordered a 27-year-old man, Idris Umai to be held in a correctional facility for allegedly abducting and raping a minor.

Umai, a resident of Mile 12, Ketu, Lagos, is accused of kidnapping and raping a minor.

Earlier, Insp. Donjour Perezi, the prosecuting attorney, said that Umai committed the crime on October 12, 2022, in Sanusi Estate, Mile 12, Lagos,

NAN reports that the rape of the minor happened on her way home from school. Perezi claimed that Umai led the 17-year-old girl very near her home. ‘’The defendant conspired with one Faziya Abubakar, Mohammed Motali, Abubakar Mohammed, Amina Aminu and Aisha Ibrahim all of Mile 12 to abduct the girl,” he said.

He said that the offense violated sections 173 and 268 of the Lagos 2015 Criminal Law. Section 268 states that “Any person who, with intent to marry or have sexual intercourse with a female of any age, or to cause her to be married, takes her away or detains her against her will is guilty of a felony and is liable to seven years imprisonment if found guilty”

In the absence of legal counsel from the state director of public prosecutions, the magistrate, Mrs. M.O. Tanimola, rejected Umai’s plea and adjourned the case to May 5 for hearing.
