Breaking: Buhari Suspends Adamawa REC, Gives New Order To Probe Police, NSCDC Roles

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the immediate suspension from office of Barrister Hudu Yunusa Ari, Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), of Adamawa his role in trying to foist Senator Aishatu Dahiru Binani as governor-elect during the recent supplementary election in the state.

Besides, Buhari has also ordered an investigation into the roles played by police officers and men of the Nigerian Civil Defence Corps in abetting the suspended REC in trying to foist Binani as governor-elect.

An action on the role of the police officers and the NSCDC will  be taken after the investigation according to a statement issued by the office of the Secretary to the Government of the .

GWG.ng reports that the commissioner of police and the commandant of the NSCDC in the state were present when Ari attempted to truncate the collation of results of the governorship election by announcing Binani as winner while the collation was ongoing.

According to the statement issued by Willie Bassey, director in the office of the SGF, the president has directed the immediate investigation and prosecution, if found liable, of Barr. Hudu Yunusa Ari, by the Inspector General of Police.

Police officers and men of the NSCDC would also face a similar investigation.

According to the statement ordering the suspension of the Adamawa REC over his role in the botched Binani affair:

“President has directed investigation by the Inspector General of Police, Director-General of the Department of State Services, and the Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, of the role of their officers in aiding and abetting the conduct/actions of Barr. Hudu Yunusa Ari and if found culpable, appropriate disciplinary actions, to be meted out to them.”
