Published

on

The World Intellectual Property Day is celebrated every year on April 26. The global campaign offers a unique annual opportunity to join with others around the globe to celebrate inventors and creators around the world and to explore how IP contributes to a thriving music and arts scene and drives the technological innovation that helps shape our world.

The theme for 2023 is Women and IP: Accelerating innovation and creativity.  The 2023 edition tends to celebrate and support women who have distinguished themselves in businesses, especially the ones that have to do with SMEs. Here are some gender focused activities at the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO).

Inventor assistance programme

The Inventor Assistance Program (IAP) supports inventors and small businesses with limited resources to transform their innovation into commercial assets.

IP guides for business

The Intellectual Property (IP) guides for Business are designed to illustrate how small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) can use the IP system and benefit from IP rights.

WIPO Academy

The WIPO Academy offers a wide portfolio of training courses on intellectual property (IP) education and skills-building essential to innovation and creativity.

The Academy’s training combines face-to-face and Distance Learning (DL) courses that IP experts teach to provide an in-depth view of the fundamentals of IP law.

Mentoring programme for Women entrepreneurs

This practical workshop aims to strengthen the capacity of women entrepreneurs from Indigenous peoples and local communities to make strategic and effective use of Intellectual Property (IP) rights.

The workshop provides basic information about how traditional knowledge and traditional cultural expressions relate to IP, and individual mentorship to support participant’s projects and businesses.
