Rep Abubakar Yanlema (APC-Jigawa) has declared his intention to vie for the position of Speaker in the 10th National Assembly.

Yanlema, who  is representing Kaugama Malam Madori federal constituency of Jigawa, declared his interest at a newx conference in Kano on Tuesday.

He said that Jigawa deserved to produce the next Speaker of the House of Representatives in the light of its contribution to APC’s victory in the 2023 general elections.

He justified his quest with the role Jigawa played to bring about the continuity of APC government.

“You will not but agree with me that this time around, Jigawa deserves to produce the next Speaker of the House of Representatives.

“Nigeria needs to bridge the gap in ‘diversity insensitivity’ to foster cohesion.

“I am bringing on board transformative and legislative intervention that is based on innovation and it is only people like us who have been equipped that will be able to bridge that gap,” he said

Yanlema stressed: “I have made it clear that I’m not a surrogate in the race; I believe in my ability and capacity to lead the 10th House of Representatives and I am in the race to win the trophy for Nigerian democracy.”

He revealed that members of the House of Representatives are one collective entity that work for the interest of Nigeria irrespective of party affiliation.

“When it comes to politics in the House, we work for Nigeria, we look at ourselves as one irrespective of political affiliations all in the interests of nation building.”

The aspirant added that his pedigree would see him tower above others in the race.

Yanlema, who ruled out the possibility of stepping down for anyone, however pledged to work with the leadership of the party to ensure a credible candidate emerged by the end of the day. (NAN)
